“Show Will Not Be Happening” — Tyla Drops Lagos From APOP World Tour Following Backlash Over Xenophobic Attacks

South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has officially removed Lagos from the schedule of her upcoming APOP World Tour. A check on the artist's official tour schedule on Friday revealed that the December 22 show originally slated for Lagos is no longer listed, leaving Nigeria off the 34-city world tour itinerary while keeping dates across Europe, North America, and South Africa intact.
Activist VeryDarkMan threatened to mobilize his followers to block the show, arguing that South African entertainers should not be welcomed in Nigeria while Nigerians continue to face violence in South Africa. On the other hand, figures like Omoyele Sowore argued that musicians should not be held responsible for political conflicts or individual criminal acts, insisting that fans should direct their anger at government officials instead.
“This is a message to South Africans. We are standing in solidarity to say no to the promoters and celebrities from South Africa who have refused to speak up against these attacks on other Africans living in South Africa.”
— Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan), Nigerian Activist
Neither Tyla nor her management team has released an official statement explaining the sudden removal of the Lagos concert date.
