The Nigerian Presidency has issued a sharp response to recent comments by UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Kemi Badenoch, urging the British government to consider “sending her back home” for proper education on African realities. The reaction follows remarks made by Badenoch which Nigerian officials have described as condescending and misinformed, particularly regarding governance and development issues in Nigeria.

A statement from the Presidency noted that Badenoch, despite her Nigerian heritage, appears to lack a grounded understanding of the nation’s progress and challenges. Officials expressed disappointment that a person of her background would, in their words, “speak so dismissively” about a country she once called home. The government emphasized that Nigeria is open to constructive criticism, but expects it to be based on facts and mutual respect.
