The Social Democratic Party (SDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has formally expelled former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai and imposed a 30-year ban on him from applying for membership or participating in any of its activities. The decision comes after investigations concluded that El‑Rufai had falsely presented himself as a member of the party, despite not having registered at ward level, and allegedly forged documents to reinforce his claimed status.

SDP accused El‑Rufai of gross indiscipline, misinformation, manipulation, and attempting to destabilize the party via deceptive political manoeuvres, including aligning with another political party (ADC) in breach of SDP's internal processes and ideology. He was also said to have registered himself as “member no. 001” in a Kaduna ward register, despite records indicating no prior members, further demonstrating the party’s claim of forgery.

As of now, SDP’s leadership insists that El‑Rufai is not and will never be recognized as a party member, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the public to take note. In contrast, the Kaduna State chapter of SDP has rejected the NWC’s decision, calling it unauthorized and unrepresentative, and accused certain individuals of issuing the expulsion statement without legitimate authority.
