Rivers Crisis: You Can’t Join APC Through the Backdoor – Okocha Warns Fubara

A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has cautioned Governor Siminalayi Fubara against making any moves to join the party without due process. Okocha made the statement during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, where he accused Fubara of attempting to align with the APC “through the backdoor.”
Okocha, who serves as the APC caretaker chairman in the state, warned that the party would not accept any form of political infiltration or manipulation aimed at destabilizing its internal structure. He stressed that membership in the APC must follow the constitutionally outlined registration process, emphasizing that the governor cannot bypass protocol.
This development follows speculation that Governor Fubara, currently embroiled in a power tussle with his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, may be considering aligning with the APC to consolidate political support amid ongoing legislative and judicial battles in the state.
Okocha’s remarks signal a growing resistance within the APC against political realignments that could alter its leadership dynamics in Rivers. The statement also adds another layer to the complex political crisis unfolding in the state, as various factions jostle for influence and control ahead of the 2027 elections.
