Venatius Ikem, the Chairman of the PDP in Cross River State, accused the ruling APC of instigating internal crises within the PDP due to its increasing popularity. He claimed that the APC is deploying energy and resources to “simulate a crisis” that does not truly exist, alleging that this tactic stems from their fear of the PDP’s resurgence.

Ikem emphasized that, despite a few defections, the PDP's structure remains intact and robust. He emphasized that faith in the party continues to grow nationwide, encouraging both aspirants and supporters. According to him, this rising momentum has unnerved the APC and prompted their alleged political maneuvering.

Addressing concerns over defections, Ikem downplayed their significance. He pointed out that the party still commands “an enormous amount of goodwill,” which he believes is a strong foundation for upcoming elections. He reassured PDP members and the public that the party remains unified and focused on its core objectives .

His remarks came during an exclusive interview with Daily Post on June 10, 2025, in which he projected confidence that the PDP is well-positioned to reclaim power. Ikem urged affected members and critics to recognize the party’s underlying strength and unity instead of succumbing to pressure created by external forces
