Rep Seeks Taiwanese Support to Boost Palm Oil Production

The member representing Atakunmosa East/Atakunmosa West/Ilesa East/Ilesa West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sanya Omirin, has urged the Taiwanese government to provide technical expertise to enhance palm oil production in his constituency.

Omirin made the call during a workshop organized by the Taipei Trade Office for farmers working in palm plantations in Iperindo, Osun State.

While acknowledging the past contributions of the Taipei Trade Office to various agriculture-related initiatives across Nigeria, the lawmaker appealed for deeper collaboration, particularly in transferring agricultural technology and skills to Nigerian farmers.

"Taiwan is renowned for quality, and I am pleased that your government is taking steps in the right direction. We look forward to stronger partnerships, especially in the area of agricultural technology, to boost our farming sector," Omirin said.

He emphasized that his constituency, with its predominantly farming population, has the potential to produce palm oil and other agricultural products that could earn significant foreign exchange for Nigeria — provided the necessary technical support is given.

"We are farmers here. We can produce palm oil and other goods capable of boosting Nigeria's economy. However, we need technological support to increase our yield in a shorter time," he added.
"The collaboration between Taiwan and Nigeria in this area would be mutually beneficial to both sides."

Addressing the farmers, program facilitator Mr. Abiola Esan underscored the importance of adopting modern technology in palm plantation agriculture.
He urged participants to embrace innovations that have revolutionized farming globally.

"The world has moved beyond the peasant methods of farming. For Nigeria to compete on the global stage, we must upgrade our farming techniques," Esan said.

He praised the Taiwanese government for partnering with Hon. Omirin to sponsor the workshop and encouraged participants to put the knowledge gained to effective use.

A statement from the Omirin Media Office, obtained on Sunday in Osogbo, confirmed that, following the workshop, participants received cash gifts from the Taiwanese government as training allowances.
