“Power Now, Pay Later” — Ikeja Electric Unveils ‘Energy Advance’ Credit Scheme for Prepaid Customers

Ikeja Electric Plc (IE) has officially introduced a buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) credit initiative titled “Energy Advance,” allowing eligible prepaid customers across its coverage network to borrow up to ₦20,000 worth of electricity units and settle the cost at a later date.
The distribution company (DisCo) announced the initiative in a public notice to consumers, framing the solution as a emergency buffer designed to prevent unexpected blackouts and power disruptions when meter units run out at inconvenient times. Under the framework, qualifying customers can request and instantly draw electricity units without immediate funding, restoring power seamlessly and paying back the equivalent monetary value during their subsequent top-ups.

“Under the scheme, qualifying Ikeja Electric customers can draw electricity units immediately, even when they do not have funds available at that moment, and repay the equivalent value afterwards... designed to help households stay connected and individuals remain productive.”

According to company guidelines, eligibility for Energy Advance is contingent on specific customer parameters, including vending history and meter status.
