Plateau Community Mourns

A community in Plateau State has been thrown into deep mourning following a brutal attack by unknown gunmen that left 58 residents dead. The attack, which occurred over the weekend, has reignited concerns over the persistent insecurity plaguing several parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

Local leaders and survivors described the assault as coordinated and devastating, with many homes burnt and families torn apart. Residents are now calling for urgent intervention from both the state and federal governments, accusing security agencies of failing to act swiftly despite repeated warnings about growing threats in the area.

“We are tired of burying our loved ones,” one resident said during a mass burial held for the victims. The community is demanding justice and sustained protection, insisting that promises made in the past have failed to translate into real safety on the ground.

As tension remains high, civil society groups and religious leaders have joined in condemning the violence, urging authorities to prioritize intelligence gathering and prosecution of those behind such killings. The Plateau State government has assured that investigations are ongoing, but trust remains fragile among grieving locals.
