Renowned Nigerian gospel minister, trumpeter, and songwriter Pastor Nathaniel Bassey has achieved a monumental milestone in African music history, officially becoming the first African gospel artist to cross one billion cumulative views on YouTube.
Data from his official channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, revealed that the platform surpassed 1.014 billion overall views alongside over 5.24 million subscribers.
Created in March 2011, the channel’s historic record comes after more than 15 years of continuous ministry broadcasts, worship releases, and viral prayer movements
The billion-view trajectory has been sustained by a rich library of globally recognized worship anthems, including "Imela", "Onise Iyanu", "Olowogbogboro", and "You Are God".
Despite the massive digital traffic and subscriber base, Bassey has repeatedly maintained that his digital platforms serve primarily as altars for spiritual devotion and worship rather than commercial operations.
