More than 100 cattle have died under mysterious circumstances while attempting to cross the River Benue, sparking alarm among herders and residents in the surrounding communities. The incident occurred earlier this week, with herders reporting that the animals suddenly began collapsing mid-stream and showed no signs of physical injury or drowning.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the cattle may have been poisoned or exposed to a harmful substance in the water, as several others that survived the crossing reportedly became weak and disoriented shortly after. Authorities have been notified and samples from the river are being collected for testing.

The Benue State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the mass deaths. Officials have urged residents and livestock owners in the area to avoid using the river until tests confirm whether it is safe.

This mysterious incident raises new concerns about environmental safety and water pollution in the region, especially as the River Benue serves as a vital source of water for thousands of farmers, herders, and their animals.
