The Osun State Government has launched a free train service to facilitate the travel of its residents from Lagos to Osogbo for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir festival. This initiative, known as the "homecoming train," aims to ease transportation challenges and allow indigenes to celebrate the festival with their families.
According to a flier announcing the initiative, the service will operate between Thursday, June 5, and Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The train will depart from the Iddo train terminus in Lagos at 10 a.m. on June 5, heading to Osogbo. The return trip from Osogbo to Lagos is scheduled to leave on Tuesday, June 10, at the same time .
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State emphasized that this initiative is part of the state's commitment to supporting its residents during key cultural and religious events. He noted that the free train service is expected to accommodate a large number of passengers, ensuring that as many Osun Muslims as possible can partake in the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations with their loved ones .
This is not the first time the state government has announced a free train service for its citizens. In previous years, similar initiatives have been launched to facilitate travel during festive periods, reflecting the state's ongoing efforts to ease transportation challenges for its residents.
For more information and updates on the free train service, residents are encouraged to contact the Osun State Ministry of Commerce and Industry or visit the official Osun State Government website.
