Nigerian football legend Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha has advised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to consider making some personal sacrifices as he weighs his next transfer decision. Speaking on the heels of growing speculation around Osimhen’s future, Okocha emphasized that while financial rewards are important, career growth and long-term legacy should also guide the striker's next move.
Okocha noted that Osimhen is currently at a pivotal point in his career, with several top European and Middle Eastern clubs expressing interest in signing him from Napoli. The former PSG and Bolton star pointed out that players sometimes need to prioritize competitive ambition, playing time, and personal development over immediate financial gain. According to him, “Every player comes to a point where sacrifices are necessary to reach the next level.”
The Napoli forward has been linked with moves to clubs in England, France, and Saudi Arabia, with recent reports suggesting Al Hilal is pushing aggressively for his signature. However, Okocha urged Osimhen to choose a club that will challenge and improve his game while keeping him in the spotlight of top-tier football, particularly as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and continental tournaments.
Okocha concluded by stating that Osimhen has the potential to become one of Africa’s all-time greats but must remain strategic and humble in managing his career trajectory. “It’s not always about the money. Legacy, growth, and purpose matter just as much,” he said.
