A tragic incident occurred in Lagos on Friday as a tricycle operator was killed in a fatal crash caused by an SUV driver allegedly driving against traffic. The SUV, bearing a customized number plate, rammed into the tricycle at high speed along a busy expressway, killing the operator on the spot and injuring at least two passengers.

Eyewitnesses said the SUV was driving one-way in defiance of traffic rules and showed no signs of slowing down before the collision. The driver reportedly fled the scene immediately, abandoning the vehicle and escaping on foot before law enforcement could arrive.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. Officials have towed the SUV to a nearby station and are working to trace its ownership through the vehicle’s customized plate. The body of the deceased tricycle operator has been taken to the morgue, while the injured passengers are receiving treatment.

The tragic event has renewed public outrage over the growing disregard for traffic laws in Lagos, particularly the menace of one-way driving. Advocacy groups are calling for stricter enforcement and harsher penalties to deter reckless driving and ensure justice for the victims.
