Ondo Judiciary Workers Begin Strike Over Financial Autonomy Dispute
Omoyeni Olabode

Judiciary workers in Ondo State have commenced an indefinite strike to press for full financial autonomy for the judicial arm of government. The industrial action began earlier this week following unresolved disagreements between the workers and the state government over funding independence.
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo chapter, said the strike was necessary due to the government's continued delay in implementing constitutional provisions guaranteeing financial autonomy. According to union leaders, several appeals and engagements with state officials yielded no concrete results.
Court activities across the state have been brought to a halt, with both civil and criminal proceedings suspended. Litigants and legal practitioners have been left stranded, as courtrooms remain locked and judicial services paralyzed.
The strike adds to the growing pressure on state governments nationwide to comply with the constitutional mandate that ensures the judiciary operates independently and receives its budgetary allocations directly. JUSUN has vowed not to return to work until the demands are fully met.
