Nationwide Strike

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over unresolved demands related to welfare, salary structure, and poor working conditions. In a statement released after an emergency meeting, the association warned that failure to address their concerns would result in a nationwide strike that would cripple healthcare services across the country.

Key issues raised include the non-implementation of the revised Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), staff shortages, delayed promotions, and the exclusion of nurses and midwives from critical policy discussions. NANNM also decried what it described as continued neglect of its members despite their frontline roles in the nation’s health system.

The union stressed that while dialogue remains open, the government must act swiftly to prevent disruption of services in hospitals and health centres nationwide. The Ministry of Health is yet to formally respond to the ultimatum.
