NUJ Lagos Council to Honour Seyi Jakande for Community Development and Youth Initiatives

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, is set to honour the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr. Seyi Jakande, in recognition of his contributions to development, public healthcare, and social welfare in Lagos State.
According to the union's leadership, the award reflects social impact interventions executed by Jakande’s administration since assuming office. The NUJ highlighted several community-focused policies, including the introduction of free school bus transport for primary pupils, a weekly feeding program covering 27 public primary schools within the LCDA, and the distribution of educational materials to lessen financial pressures on local families. The council’s committee noted that Jakande’s governance model reflects the public service legacy established by his late father, the first civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

The administration installed public streetlights across previously unlit urban transit corridors and coordinated targeted security deployments alongside law enforcement agencies to mitigate local crime risks. The official presentation ceremony will take place as part of the scheduled activities marking the upcoming 2026 NUJ Lagos Press Week.
