Guinness World Record, 60,000 Teacher Conference

Plans are underway for an unprecedented gathering of Nigerian educators aimed at breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest assembly of teachers in one venue. The “Let There Be Teachers” conference is set for 20 September 2025, at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, and will draw over 60,000 public and private school teachers.

Luyi Armstrong, General Secretary of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), revealed that the strategy meeting, attended by leaders from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and other sector stakeholders, was held to finalise the logistics of the event.

Oluwaseyi Anifowose, convener of the conference and education advocate with 1 Million Teachers (1MT), said this is more than just a record-attempt. He described the gathering as a “landmark moment” for educators to voice their challenges, promote collaboration, and demand reforms in areas like teacher training, school infrastructure, and remuneration.

The conference will feature keynote speeches, expert panels and sessions focused on school innovation, leadership and sustainability, as well as technology-driven solutions for education. It is billed as both a celebration of teachers’ contributions and a platform to push for systemic changes across the education sector.

With the Lagos State Government endorsing the conference and granting approvals for attendance by public school teachers, expectations are high that the event will attract a vast majority of educators nationwide.
