Nigeria Declares October as “Pharmacy Rx Emblem Month” to Curb Fake Drugs

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) officially designated October as Pharmacy Rx Emblem Month in its renewed campaign against counterfeit and substandard medications.
During the launch, ACPN officials stressed that the Rx emblem, a recognised mark for registered pharmacy premises, serves as a vital tool in helping the public distinguish legitimate outlets from illicit ones.
This move comes amid alarming findings from ACPN’s research, which indicate that more than 50 per cent of drugs circulating in the Nigerian pharmaceutical market are fake.
By focusing on visibility and professional identity, the Rx Emblem Month aims to bolster public awareness, strengthen regulatory oversight, and reduce the influence of rogue operators who masquerade as genuine pharmacies.
The ACPN urged all registered pharmacies nationwide to display the Rx emblem prominently and called on regulatory agencies to enforce compliance and safeguard public health.
