Oluremi Tinubu, Birthday Celebration, Tributes from Leaders

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, turned 65 on 21 September 2025, and the milestone in her life has drawn tributes from Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, governors, family members, and hundreds of well-wishers.

In a heartfelt message, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described his wife as more than a spouse, calling Oluremi “my confidant, counsellor, and the steady flame illuminating my path”. He praised her quiet strength during periods of political struggle and personal challenges, saying Nigeria owes her more than many realise.

Vice-President Shettima called her an “inestimable mother of the nation” whose compassion, service, and leadership have left an indelible mark. He highlighted her Renewed Hope Initiative’s work in empowering women, supporting youth, and aiding vulnerable citizens.

Senate President Akpabio also lauded her as a “beacon of love and strength,” noting her contributions to public welfare, political life, and humanitarian causes. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin echoed praise for her role in nation-building, especially her outreach through philanthropy and support for the disadvantaged.

Several state governors joined in the celebration. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu applauded her based on her legacy in Lagos as First Lady and Senator. Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo described her as an “Amazon and a source of inspiration to millions” through her public service. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta praised her empowerment programmes as a “beacon of hope”.

Public figures and charitable organisations also recognised her philanthropic work, underscoring her advocacy for education, women’s rights, health care, and the upliftment of marginalised groups. Her Renewed Hope Initiative has been repeatedly commended for tangible impacts across Nigeria.

Born on 21 September 1960, Oluremi Tinubu served as First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, represented Lagos Central in the Senate for twelve years, and now serves as First Lady of Nigeria. Her enduring public service and leadership have become central to her public image.

Her 65th birthday was marked with goodwill messages, prayers for her continued health and strength, and encouragement for her ongoing work in humanitarian service and advocacy.
