2025 NECO result out

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE Internal), revealing that 60.26 percent of candidates obtained five credits or more, including Mathematics and English. In total, 818,492 out of 1,358,339 students who sat the exams achieved this benchmark.

If one considers results irrespective of performance in Maths and English, the pass rate rises significantly: 1,144,496 candidates (around 84.26 per cent) secured five credits and above.

The Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, also reported a sharp decline in examination malpractice. There were 3,878 infractions in 2025, down from 10,094 in 2024, representing a 61.58 percent reduction.

Despite the overall success, challenges persist. NECO identified 38 schools across 13 states involved in whole-school cheating. Supervisors from Rivers, Niger, FCT, Kano and Osun have been recommended for blacklisting for offences including poor supervision, lateness and misconduct.

The examination results were released 54 days after the final written paper in August, which NECO described as showing “commitment to professionalism, quality assurance and credibility.”
