Nathaniel Bassey

Gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has opened up about the difficult period his family endured while he led his annual “Hallelujah Challenge,” disclosing that his wife, Sarah Bassey, suffered five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, during that time. The global praise and worship event, which brings together thousands of believers online, was held in early October 2025.

Bassey shared that there were moments during the challenge when his wife was hospitalised, and yet he continued to lead the late-night worship sessions. He revealed that after several services, nurses at the hospital would tell him, “It was powerful tonight,” unaware of the personal pain he and his wife were facing. He admitted feeling torn between pastoral duties and supporting his spouse but believed he was following God’s calling.

Despite the grief of losing those pregnancies, Bassey said the experience strengthened their faith and reliance on God. He described their journey as proof that faith does not shield believers from suffering — rather, it empowers them to persevere through trials. He counselled people not to give up, reiterating that God is faithful even in their darkest hours.

Bassey and his wife married in 2013 and are blessed with two children. The revelation has resonated with many followers, prompting an outpouring of support and solidarity from believers who have experienced similar struggles. Comment below to share your thoughts on his testimony.

Bible passage

I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. I will speak forth the righteousness of God all the day long. I never bind a sister or brother with the words of my mouth. I am always a positive encouragement. I edify and build up; I never tear down or destroy. I declare the goodness of God upon me and my household. I pray for my country. I pray for my leaders. I seek the peace of Jerusalem.
