NAF Opens Bases Nationwide in Push to Strengthen Civil-Military Ties

As part of its 61st anniversary celebrations, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to open its bases across the country to the public in a bold move to foster stronger civil-military relations. The initiative, themed “Come See Your Air Force,”is a nationwide Open Day campaign running from May 1 to 15, 2025.
In a statement released on Friday, NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the initiative aims to deepen public engagement and give Nigerians an up-close look at the operations, personnel, and contributions of the Air Force to national security.
“This is a rare opportunity for Nigerians to interact with our personnel, tour our facilities, and learn about the Air Force’s critical role in defending the nation,” he said.
What to Expect at the Open Day Events:
- Guided tours of Air Force bases and operational facilities
- Aircraft displays and close-up inspections
- Historical exhibitions, including mini-museums and photo galleries
- Interactive sessions with NAF personnel
- Documentary screenings
- Souvenir distribution
NAF units in Makurdi, Bauchi, Yenagoa, Kaduna, Enugu, Ikeja, Katsina, Maiduguri, Port Harcourt, Oshogbo, Minna, Abuja (FCT), Victoria Island, Yola, Benin, Kainji, Kano, and Jos will host these events on different days to be announced by each base.
The Open Day will also include outreach programs in schools, where Air Force officers will hold career talks to inspire young Nigerians to explore future opportunities in military service.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating:
“This Open Day is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, national unity, and pride in service. We invite all Nigerians to come, see, and connect with their Air Force.”
The Open Day serves as a prelude to the main anniversary celebrations scheduled for May 13 to 20, 2025, as the Nigerian Air Force continues to commemorate over six decades of service to the nation.
