Mr Ibu's Widow Fires Back, Denies Secretly Selling Late Actor's Properties

Stella Maris Okafor, the widow of the iconic late Nollywood comedian John Okafor (Mr Ibu), has strongly denied viral allegations that she secretly sold off her late husband’s properties to pocket the money for herself.

In a video interview, Stella Maris clarified that the sale of the late actor's properties—including a piece of land in Enugu—was never a secret or a personal decision she made alone. Displaying legal documents to back up her claims, the mother of three revealed that the transactions were carried out in accordance with a strict court order. She noted that Mr Ibu’s two adult sons, Valentine Okafor and Daniel Okafor, were fully involved in the entire process and that the Enugu land was collectively sold for 17 million naira specifically to offset expenses from the actor's burial.

Addressing other family disputes that have broken out since the veteran comedian passed away in March 2024, Stella Maris claimed that some relatives began fighting her over money right from the village during the burial, demanding a share of the financial donations given directly to her for the upkeep of her children. She also debunked claims regarding her current residence, explaining that she only moved there due to heavy public pressure and security concerns following her husband's death, and is already making arrangements to pack out to a much cheaper apartment.
