Missing Influencer Dadiyata Confirmed Dead After Six Years, Investigation Reveals

A thorough investigation by social critic Damilola Adekunle has concluded that Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, the Kaduna-based influencer who vanished on August 2, 2019, is now confirmed dead.
Adekunle’s investigation uncovered that Dadiyata had not been heard from in over six years—a period during which his widow, children, and extended family received no news. Under Nigerian law, a person missing without contact for seven years can be officially presumed dead.
Despite earlier efforts by Governor Yusuf of Kano State and appeals from activists like Omoyele Sowore and Senator Shehu Sani to investigate his disappearance, state security agencies have never confirmed Dadiyata’s fate. His family—including a wife and two young daughters—endured ongoing anguish, during which his mother passed away waiting for his return .
At around six years of silence, investigators leveraged legal frameworks such as Section 164(1) of Nigeria’s Evidence Act, declaring that Abubakar Idris can now be legally regarded as deceased. While this confirmation may offer procedural closure, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unaddressed, leaving deeper questions about accountability and justice unanswered.
