In a breathtaking finale at The K Club, Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy clinched his second Irish Open title, his first since 2016, by defeating Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren in a dramatic playoff.
Overcoming a four-shot deficit heading into the final round, McIlroy forced extra holes with a sensational 30-foot eagle putt on the 18th, matching Lagergren at 17-under overall.
The tension continued through two tied birdie playoff holes. But on the third, Lagergren’s approach found water, allowing McIlroy to secure victory with a composed birdie. Ecstatic after the win, McIlroy praised the home crowd for their electrifying support and described the moment as “really special”, especially following his Masters triumph earlier this year.
This victory not only marked McIlroy's second Irish Open but also added to a stellar 2025 season, giving him momentum ahead of the BMW PGA Championship and Ryder Cup.
