The Society for Family Health (SFH) has raised alarm over the deadly impact of malaria in Nigeria, revealing that the disease kills an average of nine Nigerians every hour. Despite years of public health campaigns and efforts to improve access to treatment, malaria remains a major cause of death, particularly among children under five and pregnant women.

SFH noted that Nigeria still accounts for a significant percentage of global malaria cases and deaths, attributing the persistence of the disease to poor access to quality healthcare, low use of mosquito nets, and resistance to antimalarial drugs. The group urged both the government and private sector to invest more in preventive measures, public education, and improved healthcare delivery.

Health experts have also emphasized the importance of continuous testing, prompt treatment, and the distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets as key strategies in the fight against malaria.
