LSACA Offers Free HIV Testing to Mark Workers' Day

To commemorate Workers' Day, the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) carried out a wide-scale, free HIV testing campaign aimed at raising awareness about the importance of regular health checks among workers. The initiative targeted both formal and informal sectors, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to public health and disease prevention.
Mobile testing units were stationed at various high-traffic locations across the state, including bus terminals, markets, parks, and secretariats. Health professionals offered confidential HIV testing, post-test counseling, and information on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for those who tested positive. In addition, LSACA distributed educational materials and engaged passersby in interactive sessions on prevention strategies, safe practices, and the importance of ending the stigma around HIV.
Executive Secretary of LSACA, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, stated that the campaign underscores the need to make health a priority, particularly for workers who may overlook routine screenings due to demanding schedules. She urged Lagosians to take advantage of the free testing and support loved ones in doing the same, noting that early detection remains one of the most effective tools in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Labour leaders and union representatives commended the initiative, describing it as a timely and necessary intervention. Many workers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to access free testing and receive guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The campaign is expected to continue in select locations over the next few days, with LSACA encouraging employers to establish regular workplace health checks as part of broader employee wellness programs.
