Students at Lagos State University's (LASU) Epe campus have staged protests against Professor Olatunji Abanikanda, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, over alleged inhumane treatment during their Farm Practical Year (FPY). On May 17, 2025, final-year students were reportedly forced to stand in the rain for over two hours as punishment for not greeting the dean. Some students experienced health issues, including fainting and asthma attacks, due to prolonged exposure without food or water .

Further allegations include students being compelled to sleep on the school farm for weeks and subjected to hard labor akin to prison conditions. Audio recordings have surfaced in which Professor Abanikanda allegedly threatens students with spiritual harm, identifying himself as a Sango worshipper . Additionally, students claim they are forced to purchase farm produce and that student politics have been banned, leaving them without representation .

The university administration has acknowledged the situation, with a spokesperson indicating that management is working on the issue and urging the public to refrain from sharing the viral video to protect the institution's image . Students and alumni are calling for immediate intervention from the university and Lagos State authorities to address the alleged abuses and ensure accountability.
