The Katsina State Government has officially extended the duration of maternity leave for nursing mothers from three months to six months. This new policy aims to promote exclusive breastfeeding and improve the health and well-being of both mothers and infants across the state. The announcement was made by the state’s Head of Civil Service, who noted that the decision aligns with global best practices in maternal and child care.

The extension applies to all female civil servants within the state and is part of broader efforts to support family health and workplace productivity. Officials say the policy will not only reduce infant mortality rates but also help in fostering a more supportive environment for working mothers. Health authorities in Katsina have welcomed the development and urged mothers to take full advantage of the additional time to bond with their babies and ensure optimal nutrition during the early months of life.
