Jennifer Lopez Sued for $300,000 Over Posting Her Own Photos Without Permission

Jennifer Lopez is facing a $300,000 lawsuit for allegedly posting two copyrighted paparazzi photos of herself on social media without obtaining permission from the photographer or the agency that owns the images. The lawsuit was filed by photographer Edwin Blanco and photo agency Backgrid, who claim ownership of the photos taken at a Golden Globes pre-party in January 2025.
Lopez shared the photos on Instagram and X with the caption “GG Weekend Glamour.” The plaintiffs argue that the images were used for commercial purposes, including promoting her fashion affiliations and brand partnerships, without proper licensing.
According to the legal filings, Blanco and Backgrid are seeking up to $150,000 in damages per photo, totaling $300,000. They also claim that Lopez's representatives were contacted after the photos were posted and a payment agreement was discussed, but the agreement has not yet been signed by Lopez.
This is not the first time Lopez has faced legal action over posting photos taken by paparazzi. She was previously sued in 2019 and 2020 for similar copyright infringement claims.
Under U.S. copyright law, the rights to a photograph generally belong to the photographer or the agency they work for—not the subject of the photo. This legal principle has led to a growing number of similar cases involving high-profile celebrities.
As of now, Jennifer Lopez has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
