Manchester City have officially left Jack Grealish out of their 27-man squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, confirming reports that he is surplus to requirements under Pep Guardiola. The omission coincides with an ongoing summer rebuild, featuring four new signings and the departure of senior players including Grealish and Kyle Walker.
Grealish’s exclusion signals his likely exit from the Etihad. He has made only seven Premier League starts this season and has fallen down the pecking order. Manchester City are reportedly open to selling him for around £40 million, a steep drop from the £100 million they initially paid Aston Villa in 2021 .
Potential suitors are emerging. Premier League clubs Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham, and Aston Villa have shown interest, while Serie A’s Napoli and Bundesliga’s Bayer Leverkusen are also monitoring his situation. Grealish, who prefers a permanent move to maintain his spot in England’s squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, has reportedly expressed excitement about Everton’s offer, particularly due to their new stadium and potential regular playing time.
His omission has not gone unnoticed by teammates; countryman Erling Haaland posted a Snapchat selfie featuring an empty seat next to him on the flight to the tournament, captioned: “Jack Grealish where are you,” subtly acknowledging their close friendship and Grealish's absence from the trip.
