Ireland Deports 35 Nigerians Over Immigration Offences

Ireland has deported 35 Nigerian nationals over immigration-related offences. The group, which included 21 men, 9 women, and 5 children, was removed via a chartered flight from Dublin to Lagos on June 4, 2025. Among those deported were two school-age brothers, whose sudden departure caused emotional scenes at their Dublin school.
The children’s classmates and teachers at St James’s Primary School were left in tears after learning the boys had been deported. The school had submitted character references on their behalf, hoping to prevent their removal. The boys’ belongings were reportedly packed up and taken from their hotel accommodation early on the day of the deportation.
Ireland’s Justice Ministry defended the move, describing deportations as a last resort necessary to maintain the country’s immigration system. Authorities stated that all individuals removed had exhausted their legal options and were deemed not to qualify for protection or residency.
The incident has sparked public outcry, with politicians and rights advocates calling for more compassion, particularly when children and families are involved. Critics argue that the process lacked transparency and failed to consider the emotional and social ties the deported individuals had formed in Ireland.
