Iranians Call For Revenge and "Death to Trump" as Slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s State Funeral Begins

Massive, highly emotionally charged crowds have packed the streets of Tehran as the multi-city state funeral for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, officially commenced. The week-long funeral ceremonies—running from July 4 to July 9, 2026—have seen millions of mourners gather amidst a heavy atmosphere of grief and intense geopolitical fury, with prominent figures openly calling for the deaths of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Khamenei and members of his immediate family were killed on February 28, 2026, during a joint US-Israeli airstrike that targeted his compound in Tehran at the onset of the US-Iran conflict. The procession featured flag-draped coffins carrying the remains of the 86-year-old leader, his daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and his 14-month-old granddaughter, loaded onto a truck that slowly navigated through miles of tightly packed crowds stretching from Imam Hossein Square to Azadi Square. Mourners prominently flooded the streets carrying national flags alongside symbolic red Shia flags, which represent a cultural call for blood revenge.
"It is a disgrace for us if we do not kill your killer... We should kill their leader, Trump."
— Mohammad Rasouli, Eulogy Poet & Gholamreza Sabooni, Mourner
During a major address at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla Grand Mosque, eulogist and poet Mohammad Rasouli incited the crowd by calling for severe retaliation against the American and Israeli leaders, prompting thunderous chants of "Revenge, revenge!" and "Death to Trump!" from the audience.
Following the central processions in Tehran, the late leader's convoy is scheduled to journey through prominent Shia holy sites in neighboring Iraq, including Karbala and Najaf, before returning to Iran for final burial rites at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad on July 9.
