The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 14 associations have passed the initial assessment and will proceed to the next stage of political party registration.
This follows a screening of 171 applications, of which 157 were disqualified for failing to meet requirements under Section 222 of the Constitution, Section 79 of the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC’s 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
Among the associations that pre-qualified are the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), African Transformation Party (ATP), Advance Nigeria Congress (ANC), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Grassroots Initiative Party (GRIP), Green Future Party (GFP), Liberation People’s Party (LPP), National Democratic Party (NDP), National Reform Party (NRP), Patriotic Peoples Alliance (PPA), and Peoples Freedom Party (PFP).
INEC has published the list of these pre-qualified associations on its website and other official platforms for public transparency. The interim chairmen and secretaries of the selected associations are expected in Abuja on 17 September 2025 for a briefing, during which the further verification process will be explained.
The next phase will involve physical verification of the claims made by each association, after which INEC will make its final decision on whether to register them officially as political parties under Nigerian law.
