“I Stopped Attending Church for Over 10 Years” — Actor Yemi Solade Opens Up

Actor Yemi Solade

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has revealed why he hasn’t attended church for more than a decade. Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Solade recounted a turning point back in 2013, when a pastor explicitly directed that he refuse acting jobs scheduled on Sundays.

He recalled attending service with his wife that day and being told: “You must not accept work on Sundays.” Solade responded from his pocket, noting that those same roles are what sustain him financially and enable his offerings. That moment, he said, prompted him to withdraw from regular church attendance.

Solade went on to emphasize that life didn’t spiral after stepping away. In fact, he claims it improved—“I have peace, I do well,” he said—since he escaped the constant demands of church committees and activities that often disrupted both family life and work. His absence wasn’t a rejection of faith, but a deliberate move to safeguard his personal wellbeing and professional space.

What do you think—was Solade right to prioritise his career and peace of mind, or should obeying church dictates come first? Share your thoughts in the comments!
