Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has asserted that he is senior to the iconic actor Pete Edochie in terms of acting experience. Solade made the bold claim during a recent interview, where he reflected on his journey in the film industry and responded to conversations about legendary figures in Nollywood.

According to Solade, his acting career began long before the home video era that brought Edochie into mainstream prominence. He revealed that he started performing on stage professionally in 1978 and went on to study theatre arts at multiple levels, including at the university. In his words, “I am senior to Pete Edochie in this profession. He started acting on screen in the 1980s, but I’ve been on stage since the 1970s.”

Solade emphasized that while Edochie may be widely respected and admired for his roles in movies like Things Fall Apart, seniority in the profession should be measured by when one started training and working in the field, not by popularity. He noted that his formal academic background in theatre arts gave him a solid foundation long before the rise of Nollywood.
