Horror in Anambra: 24-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Murder and Dismemberment of Pregnant Nurse

A shocking case of murder and human parts trafficking has sent waves of fear and outrage across Anambra State. The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 24-year-old Somtochukwu Nwafor, who is accused of being involved in the brutal killing and dismemberment of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.

The arrest was made on July 25, 2025, with the help of concerned residents of Umueri village, where the mutilated remains of the victim were discovered in a soakaway pit. The horrifying discovery sparked intense public concern, prompting swift action from both the police and the local community.

In a statement posted on the command’s official Facebook page, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed disturbing details about the case. According to the statement, Somtochukwu Nwafor confessed to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, one Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who is currently on the run.

Nwafor admitted that she was called to the crime scene after the nurse had been killed, with the task of cleaning up blood stains. She also confessed that body parts were sold to local native doctors who allegedly use them for ritual practices.

The statement further revealed that the victim, a trained nurse, had been lured to Elobisi’s residence under the pretense of providing medication. Following the confession, police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided the shrine of a suspected native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile, in Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike. During the operation, suspected human body parts were recovered, concealed in cellophane bags.

Authorities have now launched a manhunt for Elobisi and other accomplices believed to be involved in this chilling crime. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the act as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He reassured the public that a full investigation is underway and vowed to bring everyone involved to justice.

The Police Command is also urging members of the public to come forward with any useful information. CP Orutugu assured that informants’ identities will be kept confidential, as the force intensifies efforts to dismantle the criminal network behind this heinous act.

This incident highlights the dark undercurrent of ritual killings still haunting some parts of Nigeria. It also underscores the importance of community vigilance, inter-agency cooperation, and prompt law enforcement action to protect innocent lives and uphold justice.
