Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has launched a bold attempt to break the Guinness World Record by cooking the largest pot of jollof rice ever. The project involves using 250 bags of rice, an enormous quantity. The event kicked off at Eko Hotels, Lagos, where fans and supporters gathered to witness the beginning of this massive cooking challenge.

Before the cooking began, there was a heartfelt moment: Hilda and her mother knelt in prayer, seeking divine strength, protection, and endurance. Spectators were moved by the emotional scene, pointing to Hilda’s mother as a central figure in supporting her daughter’s ambitious journey.

Hilda herself took care to emphasize the cleanliness and readiness of the cooking pot. She shared that she had personally washed the pot, and made clear that in a few hours it would be filled with what she called “thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making.” The original venue was planned to be Muri Okunola Park, but due to the overwhelming interest, with over 20,000 people registering to attend, the location was changed to Eko Hotel.

If successful, this attempt will add another milestone to Hilda Baci’s growing recognition. She first came to global attention in 2023 when she set a record for the longest cooking marathon. This latest attempt will not only celebrate jollof rice, a beloved dish across West Africa, but also highlight community involvement, culture, and the power of ambition.
