French President Emmanuel Macron has filed a defamation lawsuit against American political commentator Candace Owens over her repeated public claims that his wife, Brigitte Macron, was born a man. The legal action was filed in a U.S. federal court, with the French leader arguing that Owens’ statements are false, harmful, and intended to damage his family's reputation.

Owens had made the controversial remarks multiple times across her social media platforms and podcasts, insisting without evidence that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman. The First Lady of France has previously denied similar rumors, calling them "absurd" and "malicious." President Macron, in the suit, described the claims as a “deliberate and sustained attack on the dignity” of his wife, seeking damages and an official retraction from Owens.

Owens, a prominent conservative figure in the U.S., has responded defiantly on her platform X, saying she stands by her “freedom to ask questions” and would not be silenced. Her legal team has yet to file an official response in court.
