The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to establish 7,000 digital hospitals across rural communities, aiming to enhance healthcare access for approximately 20 million underserved citizens. This initiative, directed by President Bola Tinubu, was unveiled by the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, during the launch of a digital hospital and school in Ibwa 2 community, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

Dr. Tijani highlighted that over 80% of the targeted beneficiaries reside in northern Nigeria, emphasizing the government's commitment to bridging the healthcare gap between urban and rural areas. The project is a collaborative effort involving Globacom Nigeria and Huawei Technologies Nigeria, aiming to deliver various digital services to over 12,000 residents in the initial phase.

During the launch, the minister demonstrated the functionality of the digital facilities by engaging in online conversations with a medical doctor in Abuja and a teacher in Lagos. Additionally, 125 smartphones were distributed to the community through the village head, facilitating access to services provided by the facility, complemented by free Wi-Fi connectivity.

The government has set an ambitious timeline, aiming to deliver all 7,000 digital hospitals by the end of the year. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to digitize Nigeria's healthcare system, ensuring that quality medical services are accessible to all, regardless of location.
