FG Announces Plan to Review Healthcare Policy for Civil Servants

The Federal Government has revealed plans to undertake a comprehensive review of the healthcare policy for civil servants in Nigeria. This move is aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of medical services available to public sector workers. The announcement was made during a recent stakeholders' meeting in Abuja, where officials highlighted the need for reform in light of growing healthcare challenges and feedback from employees.

According to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the current health policy has not kept pace with modern needs and emerging health threats. Many civil servants have complained about inadequate coverage, delays in treatment approvals, and lack of access to specialized care. The review process will involve input from health professionals, civil servant unions, and relevant government agencies to ensure that the revised policy addresses these concerns.

The government also intends to explore partnerships with private healthcare providers to expand the network of hospitals and clinics accessible under the civil service health insurance scheme. This is expected to ease pressure on public hospitals and provide civil servants with more options when seeking medical attention. Additionally, emphasis will be placed on preventive care and wellness programs to reduce long-term health costs and absenteeism.

Officials assured that the policy review will be carried out transparently and inclusively. A timeline for implementation will be released once consultations are complete. The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that civil servants receive the medical attention they need to remain healthy and productive.
