The Federal Government has commenced plans to review and increase the monthly pension payouts of retired Nigerian Police Force (NPF) personnel to ensure improved post-service welfare for law enforcement officers.
The Acting Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Muhammad Dutse, disclosed the development on Monday, October 5, 2026, confirming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has established a specialized presidential committee tasked with restructuring police retirement benefits.
“The Federal Government is working to ensure that police officers battling insecurity have a decent pension upon retirement... So that is why we want to continue appealing to police officers to exercise patience. Remember, police is in charge of the security of this country, and that is why Mr President has taken it seriously to ensure that their take-home has been improved.”

While specific percentage increases and implementation timelines remain pending subject to the presidential committee’s final report, NPF Pensions indicated that direct engagements and digital service enhancements are currently being rolled out across regional commands.
The policy initiative addresses long-standing grievances from retired police officers regarding pension parity and delayed gratuity disbursements, positioning welfare reform as a pillar of broader security sector restructuring.
