Advanced Cancer Treatment at UCH Ibadan Nigeria

The Federal Executive Council has approved the development of a specialised Oncology Centre at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. This facility is part of a broader initiative to expand access to cancer diagnosis and treatment across Nigeria, especially through the Cancer Access Partnership (CAP) which aims to make cancer care more affordable and accessible.

The new centre at UCH will be equipped with modern tools for chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine, enhancing its role as a major institution for cancer management in West Africa. This move is in line with the government’s commitment to strengthening tertiary healthcare and reducing the number of patients travelling abroad for cancer treatment.

UCH is among 14 tertiary hospitals selected nationwide to benefit from the CAP programme. These institutions are being supported with advanced equipment, capacity building and safety protocols to ensure high-quality cancer care delivery.

The new facility is expected to serve as a key hub for cancer research, training and treatment, not only for Oyo State but for the wider region. Thus, offering renewed hope to patients battling various forms of cancer.
