The Ekiti State Government has announced a major leap in its monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), growing from ₦650 million to ₦2.3 billion in under three years. The remarkable increase signals progress in the state's fiscal strategy and commitment to reducing overdependence on federal allocations.
According to state officials, the revenue surge is the result of strategic reforms, digitalization of payment systems, expansion of the tax net, and improved compliance enforcement. The government also credited efforts to eliminate leakages and boost transparency in financial processes.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji praised the achievement as a sign of economic resilience, noting that the increased funds are being channeled into critical sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and youth development. He added that the government is committed to maintaining fiscal discipline while fostering sustainable growth.
The announcement has drawn praise from policy experts and business leaders, who see the development as a model for other subnational governments in Nigeria. However, stakeholders are also urging the government to ensure that the gains translate into tangible improvements in the lives of residents.
