Ebonyi: Ohanaeze Youths Warn That N30m APC Form Fee Could Lead to Looting

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) has raised a serious alarm over the N30 million price tag set by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the upcoming local government elections in Ebonyi State.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the National President of the OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described the high cost of the forms as "outrageous and insensitive," especially given the current economic hardship facing many Nigerians. The group warned that forcing chairmanship aspirants to cough up such a large sum just to contest could have dangerous consequences for the state’s treasury.
The OYC argued that when a candidate spends N30 million just to get a party ticket—before even starting a main campaign—their first priority upon entering office will likely be to "recover their investment." The group cautioned that this high barrier to entry effectively shuts out capable, young, and credible leaders who may not have deep pockets, while paving the way for massive looting of local government funds once winners take office.
The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization urged the leadership of the APC in Ebonyi State to review the fees downward to encourage inclusivity and reduce the temptation for future corruption at the local government level.
Do you think N30 million is too much for a local government nomination form? Could these high costs be fueling corruption in our politics? Share your comments below!
