Did You Know? A City Was Once Sold for Beer!
Back in 1647, legend has it that the Swedish town of Kronobäck was literally sold for beer. The neighboring city of Kalmar reportedly bought the town from the crown—and part of the payment included two barrels of beer.
Sounds crazy, right? But in those days, beer was more than just a drink—it was a valuable commodity often used in trade and even diplomacy.
While historians believe the beer payment was probably more symbolic than official, it’s still a pretty wild story from history that reminds us just how different the world used to be!
