Human rights lawyer and political commentator Deji Adeyanju has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately enforce a recent Supreme Court judgment by removing affected political candidates from its official portal.
In a public statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, Adeyanju emphasized that the electoral body is constitutionally obligated under Section 287(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to give full effect to decisions rendered by the apex court. His demand follows a landmark verdict by a seven-member Supreme Court panel that set aside a Court of Appeal decision and upheld key provisions of the Electoral Act 2026—specifically Sections 77(5), 77(7), and 84(2)—confirming INEC's authority to enforce party membership register deadlines prior to primaries.
