Dangote Urges Tinubu to Ban Imported Fuel Under ‘Nigeria First’ Policy
Omoyeni Olabode

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take a bold step by banning the importation of refined petroleum products into the country. He made this appeal during a recent event, urging the government to include refined fuel in the list of restricted imports under the Federal Government’s ‘Nigeria First’ policy.
Dangote argued that with Nigeria now having local refining capacity through the Dangote Refinery, there’s no need to keep depending on imported petrol, diesel, or aviation fuel. He believes prioritising locally made fuel products would not only support economic growth but also save scarce foreign exchange and create jobs.
He stated that the country can achieve self-sufficiency in petroleum refining and should not continue to enrich other economies at the expense of Nigeria’s own. His appeal comes as the Dangote Refinery ramps up production and pushes to meet both local and regional fuel needs.
