Dangote Truck Drivers Earn More Than Graduates

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, has stated that his company’s truck drivers earn significantly more than many Nigerian graduates. He claimed that the drivers’ pay is “three or four times” the national minimum wage.

Dangote also outlined additional benefits for his drivers, including access to housing loans and various welfare incentives. He noted that after five years of accident-free driving, a driver becomes eligible for house loan schemes.

The CNG-truck initiative is expected to create about 24,000 direct job opportunities, including drivers and assistants, as part of Dangote’s ongoing efforts to expand transport logistics and support economic growth.

Dangote made the remarks in response to concerns raised by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) about potential job losses from his company’s distribution plans. He insisted that no existing jobs would be lost and invited unemployed union members to join his scheme.
