Burna Boy Joins Shakira FIFA World Cup

Nigerian superstar Burna Boy is set to make history as he teams up with Colombian global icon Shakira for the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, titled "Dai Dai." The collaboration marks a major milestone for Afrobeats, bringing the genre's infectious energy to the world's biggest sporting stage.

The teaser video, filmed at the legendary Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, features Shakira delivering high-energy choreography alongside dancers representing various competing nations. "Dai Dai" is described as a high-octane fusion of reguetón and Afrobeats, blending Shakira’s signature Latin pop style with Burna Boy’s rhythmic African sound. The track is intended to serve as the musical heartbeat for the tournament, which kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

For Shakira, this project marks her second time recording the primary official FIFA World Cup anthem, following the global phenomenon "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" in 2010. She also contributed "La La La" for the 2014 tournament in Brazil. Fans have already dubbed her the "Queen of World Cup Anthems," and the addition of Burna Boy is a strategic move by FIFA to reflect the diverse and global nature of the 2026 tournament, which will feature 48 teams for the first time.

Do you think "Dai Dai" can reach the same legendary status as "Waka Waka," or is the bar set too high for any new World Cup anthem to clear? Share your comments below!
